Select The Right Barcode Scanner Battery

OK - in my book barcode scanner batteries are not inexpensive. Last time I looked they were running between $20 and $60 depending on unit and model. So you want to get the most out of them you can. Most of the units carry a 12 month warranty but you really don't want to be replacing batteries at any time and certainly not right after the warranty expires. So some research is in order before you make a commitment to a scanner of several scanners if you have that much need.

One thing to do is to see if the unit has a backup battery and whether or not the backup takes a charge from the main battery. If the backup dies, before you tear your hair out, charge the unit for 15 hours and check to see if the internal battery will hold a charge. You remove the main battery and check for a battery warning. If there is, you probably need to send the unit for service as the battery may be board soldered. Don't play!

Back to cost again. You know that batteries are going to have be replaced. If your unit doesn't come with rechargeable batteries and a charging device, you may want now to correct that feature by acquiring a charger. I's going to run you somewhere between $150 and $200. Perhaps you should have figured that in to your justification before you bought!

Most scanning units display the level of the battery charge when the unit is first turned on. Experience shows that typically batteries tend to last uncharged for 2 weeks. The average charge time to restore the battery is anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.

While you have a cost reduction yen and I can't blame you, refrain from suppliers who offer cut rate versions for well-known marks. You get what you pay for and what you'll get following this course is cheap, shoddy and unreliable. That said using a battery from a cheap source may void all product warranties on the scanner itself.

Looking at a currently advertised piece of gear for the light manufacturing/retail arena, the TYSSO BT Series Bluetooth Barcode Scanner. This example maintains that the scanner will perform more than 40,000 scans per recharge and states that the battery can be recharged by PC USB port, or external power adapter. The battery is a lithium-ion and takes about 4 hours to recharge. You can find a selection of barcode scanner batteries at BizRate. Should be a good price check.
