Putting The Good Stuff On Your MobileMobile applications? Well, don't blame me if we get hung up here on global vocabulary differences. Mobile to me means anything that's designed to be portable if nothing else whereas mobile to a European is what I call a cell phone. Exc-u-s-e me! Anyway, what we'll talk about here is mobile applications meaning applications that are suitable for mobile/cellphone use. OK? First off, there a multitude of 'em. and I'm hardly sure where to start. The most obvious, I suppose, is what the mobile was designed to do in the first place - provide telephone service anywhere you go. And there's the rub! Does your mobile go anywhere and provide telephone service there? If you've got one that does, would you please send me the details in a plain brown wrapper. I've got to have one of those! Where is world wide mobile service headed? Or shall we all start using some version of Skype? The primary criticism I have of the various packages offered by the big guys in mobile is just that. They are mostly packages. I buy an application that is supposed to give me any TV program I'll ever want anywhere for only ten bucks a month, only to find that I need some related bundled media package too at a pretty handy price per month. Did you notice those fine print warnings on the ad about you are responsible for all the data charges? My mobile bill is huge as it is after I got sucked in to the latest contract deal with the fanciest mobile you've ever seen . This piece of hardware does everything you could ever want stopping short only of doing the supper dishes piled up in the sink. I'll quit ranting and get down to some of the more affordable mobile applications now available. Let's talk about the applications that are available on your mobile and how you go about getting them downloaded, hopefully at affordable prices and safely. A site you might want to check is YouPark (http://www.youpark.com/consumerhomecb). This site has categories like this - premium titles, trial products, free products, top downloads and hot offers. At least you could start there and get some ideas, if nothing else. YouPark has an eclectic mix of stuff to check from Encyclopedia Britannica to Sudoku to Glyph to a world time to world weather - well you get the idea, take a look anyway. You want games, games, games? Well you can try a few free if you like. Try this site http://www.mobilclub.org/ The cost of free is a lot of ads you don't want, so don't say I didn't warn you. Right now, there's a lot of shaking out going on and you need to be careful. You also need to attend to security but if you're a web dweller you're used to that , right? Use you head before you download. and be careful where you visit. |
